Media Looking at the Business of Soccer

As we do every so often, we thought we would take a look at some business stories covered by the mainstream.  We’ll start with the Canadian Wire Service which has named FUSION as the official sponsorship and advertising agency for the newly rebuilt BC Place.  FUSION will largely be responsible for bringing sponsorship opportunities to BC Place and locating potential advertisers.

Marketwatch is reporting on a combined effort between the Seattle Sounders, Best Buy and Panasonic to bring Sounders’ forward Fredy Montero out to a local Best Buy to sign autographs to meet fans.  Best Buy’s relationship with Chicago is well known and Panasonic has long been a sponsor of MLS.

Finally, the BBC News provides a lengthy feature on Tim Leiweke, the man responsible for “bringing Beckham” to the USA.  The article provides an interesting British perspective on the decision to bring Becks to MLS and some of AEG’s efforts across the pond.  The piece is worth a read.
