Working with Sponsors: A Look Around MLS

It has been some time since we have looked at league and team promotions in American soccer.  We’ll start with  new MLS partner Continental Tire, offering a free MLS jersey to any fan who purchases four Continental brand tires at participating dealers in certain Northeast locations.  The jersey can be from a team of the fan’s choice and can be redeemed by submitting certain documents to a designated address. The promotion applies to purchases made between May 15 and June 30.

Ledo Pizza is the “official”  pizza of DC United, a fact proudly displayed on both the Ledo and DC United websites.  In addition to RFK Stadium, Ledo has locations in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. While the team and restaurant offer links to each other’s websites, there are no apparent promotions offered between the two entities.

In Salt Lake City, RSL is running the “Ultimate Summer Kickoff Party”  in conjunction with Zions Bank and the Nothing but Nets charity.  Open to students of all ages, the campaign is a fundraiser for the charity.  The grand prize winner gets 25 tickets to the upcoming RSL/Galaxy game, a limo ride for all 25 to the match, free food and drink at the game, front row seats to the post game Dane Cook show and a meet and greet with Dane Cook. This is a great idea and a worthy cause.
