Soccer Business Bits: WPS Makes a Hire, MSG Signs a Deal & More

WPS named former FC Gold Pride Director of Communications Crystal Fukomoto as the league’s new Communications Specialist.  According to the league press release, Fukumoto will be responsible for public and media relations, as well as the league’s corporate communications functions and broadcast relations reporting to the WPS CEO.  She will also work closely with the League Web Producer and Digital Media Manager on the league’s social media initiatives, website and digital platform.

After broadcasting the first two Red Bulls matches under a temporary agreement, MSG has reached a deal with the team.  The network will broadcast 24 of the team’s remaining games in High Definition.  Importantly, the arrangement has been reported as a multi-year deal.  In addition, MSG will produce pre and post game shows for a select number of matches.  MSG has held the broadcast rights to the Red Bulls since the league’s inaugural season. It is worth noting that in a chat on his website, Ives reported that there is no rights fee being paid.

Finally, another full weekend of MLS matches are on the schedule for this weekend.  FSC’s Friday night broadcast schedule will debut from Columbus, while TSN and Galavision will also offer matches.  There will be no ESPN game this weekend, but the rest of the matches will be available on DK or MDL.
