Soccer Business Bits: FSC Makes a Move, Vancouver Goes Digital & More

In an unexpected, yet welcome development, FSC has announced that the longtime voice of ESPN MLS telecasts, JP Dellacamera, will call games for the network on Friday nights. Dellacamera is a recognizable voice to American soccer fans and he will be a welcome addition to the FSC team.  Because his FSC assignments will be limited to Friday nights, he will also be able to continue as the primary play by play voice for the Philadelphia Union.  According to the linked article, ESPN has not yet announced Dellacamera’s replacement.  While Ian Darke will take some matches, it is not expected that he will be the primary voice for weekly ESPN matches.

Primary Whitecaps sponsor Bell has announced that all Whitecaps matches will be available live on Bell mobile.  In addition, fans will have access to certain TFC matches on the mobile network as well as MLS Cup and All-Star games.  Bell also offers mobile access to NFL and NHL highlights.

In Philly, star forward Sebastien Le Toux has signed a multi-year deal to serve as a spokesman for Bimbo and PPL.  The two companies are the biggest sponsors of the Union franchise with Bimbo serving as the jersey sponsor and PPL owning the naming rights to the stadium.  According to the release, he will be featured in various in-store promotional campaigns and make appearances for Horsham, Pa.-based Bimbo, while PPL will appear on signs and ads for PPL.
