Soccer Business Bits: Galaxy Go Gambling, More Video Games & More

Bodog.net has announced a deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy, to locate signage, banners and television ads at the Home Depot Center.  European soccer clubs have long maintained relationships with gambling websites both in-stadium and on uniforms.  MLS has been much more reluctant to embrace gambling, and this new deal with Bodog represents a departure from previous MLS policies.  Bodog is an interesting choice for MLS’ first dip in the gambling waters.  The site has been far more aggressive than most of the other online gambling portals in continuing to market despite recent legislation prohibiting such gambling in the United States.  We’ve previously explored online opportunities to gable on MLS matches.  For that discussion, click here.

We posted last week about the importance of video games in promoting Major League Soccer.  One of our readers intelligently commented about the seemingly negative ratings assigned to MLS players relative to the players around the world.  In England alone, more than 820,000 units were sold in the first week alone, and those daring to play with MLS teams may receive a fairly negative impression based on those ratings.  The folks over at MLS Rumors provide a fairly comprehensive discussion of the issue.

Finally, the North American Soccer League has announced that San Antonio will be the next entrant in the league.
