Back late from a USOC game, so just a couple of quick business notes from around United States soccer. In Philly, there is a report that the Union have sold more than 7,000 season tickets. With nine months to go until First Kick in 2010, that is a solid number. Hopefully as players get signed and the stadium goes up, tickets will clear the 10k mark and get near the 15k cap set by the team.
Fights over stadium funding in Portland are continuing, with an ongoing spat between the City Mayor and County Commissioner front and center. There is a $15 million dollar gap to bridge for stadium funding and the use of “Urban Renewal Area” funding is the big question. If the gap remains, Portland will likely look to the Paulsons to bring the extra money. Will they? For more on Portland’s expansion bid, see here.
This happened a number of days ago, but we missed it. FC Dallas sat their GM and coach down for a Q&A with season ticket holders. The give and take was pretty remarkable and despite the tough questions, it is an impressive fan outreach effort to subject front office personell to such an interrogation mid-season.
